AppleApple's latest budget iPad is a feature-packed device, but its increased cost compared to previous models could make it a less attractive option. Apple's latest iPad, the 10th generation, aims to be the new entry-level model. It offers a larger display, improved performance, and a sleeker design compared to its predecessor. While many of these enhancements were previously exclusive to the more expensive iPad Air, the 10th-gen iPad compromises in some areas, including its processor, to keep costs lower.
This iPad offers a great combination of performance, battery life, and app support, making it an ideal tablet for taking advantage of its large screen. The latest iPad is a solid upgrade from the ninth-generation model, but its increased cost and performance gap compared to the iPad Air make it a less compelling purchase, especially considering the availability of discounted iPad Air models.
Design
The new iPad is essentially identical to the previous two iPad Air models, with the same screen size and nearly identical dimensions. While the slight differences in size mean cases won't be interchangeable, they're visually indistinguishable. The updated design of the new iPad is more modern than the ninth-generation model, but it lacks the freshness of a truly new design given its similarity to other iPad models. It's simply a familiar iPad look.
Like virtually all iPads, the new model is beautifully constructed and feels pleasant to hold and interact with. While I'm not particularly drawn to the yellow color, Apple also offers silver, blue, and pink options.
Apple describes the iPad as having an "all-screen design," but in reality, there's a noticeable bezel surrounding the display. While the bezel provides a place to grip the device without accidentally touching the screen, it's far from edge-to-edge. Additionally, the front-facing camera further limits the screen-to-body ratio, making the "all-screen" claim a bit misleading.
