After introducing the Galaxy S23, Samsung wasted no time in releasing the One UI 5.1 update for the Galaxy S22, S21, and S20 series. This update aimed to make the features introduced in the Galaxy S23, which runs on One UI 5.1, available to a wider range of users. The One UI 5.1 update allows owners of Galaxy S22, S21, and S20 to experience many of the exciting new features that were initially exclusive to the Galaxy S23.

Why One UI 5.1 is Better Than 5.0

One UI 5.0 and One UI 5.1 are both built on top of the Android 13 operating system.  When Samsung introduced Android 13 to the Galaxy S22, S21, and S20 series in December 2022, they also updated the user interface to One UI 5.0. This update included several enhancements beyond the standard Android 13 features.

One UI 5.1 was initially exclusive to the Galaxy S23, likely to entice existing users to upgrade and attract new customers with unique features beyond the new hardware. As a result, certain features were initially reserved for One UI 5.1.

Samsung's decision to release the One UI 5.1 update for older Galaxy models was likely motivated by a desire to maintain the momentum generated by the Galaxy S23 launch. By bringing the latest features to existing users, Samsung hoped to encourage positive word-of-mouth and potentially boost sales of the Galaxy S23.

The primary difference between One UI 5.1 and One UI 5.0 lies in the new features initially introduced with the Galaxy S23. By updating to One UI 5.1, owners of Galaxy S22, S21, and S20 can experience a software experience that closely resembles the Galaxy S23.
